Globetrotters: Why You Can Teach Languages in Class Even When You Don’t Speak Them

/ Blog / September 5, 2026

You don’t speak Greek. You’ve never set foot in Romania. Dutch seems unpronounceable to you. And yet you’re being asked to introduce seven European languages to your class. Many teachers feel the same apprehension about the Globetrotters project: “How can I teach a language I don’t master myself?” The answer fits in one sentence: you don’t have to teach it. You have to discover it, together with the children.
The Globetrotters project doesn’t rely on the teacher’s linguistic expertise, but on their ability to create a space of shared curiosity. Authentic recordings, digital activities, and physical games on the platform carry the language; the teacher’s role is to accompany the journey, not to master it in advance. When students encounter writing systems that differ from their native script for the first time – such as the Greek alphabet, Arabic script, Chinese characters, Cyrillic, or different variants of the Latin alphabet – they acquire far more than new graphic symbols. They begin to engage with different ways of thinking, communicating, and representing meaning.

From an early age, children should be introduced to the importance of cultural diversity and encouraged to develop open-minded attitudes that promote tolerance.
