School Sports Week kicks off with table tennis
Sportsmanship, fair play and a fantastic atmosphere marked the first day of competition
School Sports Week at Savremena Primary School began on Monday, 21 September, with the first day dedicated to one of our students’ favourite disciplines – table tennis.
With plenty of energy, concentration and sporting spirit, students competed at the table, demonstrating agility, precision and speed, as well as something equally important – respect for their opponents and the principles of fair play. From the opening points, it was clear that an exciting competition was ahead, with every new match bringing another dose of excitement.
While the competitors fought for every point, their classmates supported them and followed the matches closely, creating the atmosphere of a true school tournament. Events like this show that sport at Savremena is not only about competition, but also an important part of school life, friendship and togetherness.
School Sports Week is designed to give students the opportunity to stay active, demonstrate their sporting skills and discover, through different disciplines, just how important perseverance, discipline and a positive attitude towards competition are, both on and off the court.

Marko Vujaklija takes first place
After a series of exciting matches and impressive rallies, first place in the table tennis tournament went to Marko Vujaklija, a student from class VIII-2.
Throughout the competition, Marko demonstrated excellent concentration, confidence and persistence, maintaining a high level of play even during the most exciting moments. His path to victory required precision, quick reactions and good tactics, qualities that characterised his performance on the opening day of School Sports Week.
However, the result was not the only highlight of the tournament. The students showed that they know how to be true sporting rivals, encourage one another and accept both victory and defeat in the spirit of fair play. Every match was an opportunity to challenge themselves, gain valuable experience and enjoy sport alongside their peers.
By organising activities like these, Savremena encourages students to make physical activity a natural and important part of their everyday lives. Sporting competitions also develop discipline, perseverance, self-confidence and respect for others, values that students can apply in many other areas of life.
Congratulations to Marko on winning first place, as well as to all the students who participated and contributed to the fantastic atmosphere at the beginning of Sports Week.
Sports Week has only just begun
The table tennis tournament was only the first challenge of School Sports Week, during which students can look forward to new disciplines, new competitions and many more opportunities to showcase their talents.
The purpose of these activities is not simply to discover who is the fastest, most precise or most successful in a particular discipline. More importantly, sport teaches students how to persevere when things become difficult, respect their opponents, accept results and support their classmates. This is precisely why sports days hold a special place in school life at Savremena.
For our students, Sports Week is also an opportunity to take a break from their everyday school routine, stay physically active and spend time with their peers in a different environment. Every new sporting challenge offers the chance to discover a new talent, set a new personal goal or simply enjoy playing and spending time together.
The first day ended with a victory for Marko Vujaklija from VIII-2, but School Sports Week is only gaining momentum. New challenges, enthusiastic cheering and more sporting stories await our students, and we are looking forward to seeing the results.
Well done to Marko and all the participants – let the games continue!
