Savremena Students at Košutnjak: When Nature Becomes the Classroom
Learning, friendship and sport during the first days of the new school year
The new school year at Savremena began with new encounters, friendships and experiences, as well as with the familiar idea that some of the most valuable lessons do not have to take place within four classroom walls. During the very first week of classes, sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students exchanged their desks for the greenery of Košutnjak, once again discovering what learning can look like when nature becomes the classroom.
As part of Savremena’s well-known “Classroom Without Walls” concept, the students enjoyed a day filled with movement, sports, walks and time with their peers. On Wednesday, September 2, students from classes VII-1, VII-2, VII-3 and VI-3 visited Košutnjak, while on Thursday, September 3, students from VI-1, VI-2, VIII-1 and VIII-2 had their turn to enjoy a classroom in the open air.
A change of environment gave them an opportunity to experience the beginning of the school year differently – actively, naturally and in a relaxed atmosphere surrounded by friends. Instead of an ordinary school day, they enjoyed shared challenges, conversations, sports activities and plenty of opportunities for spontaneous interaction.
It was an inspiring beginning to a new school adventure in true Savremena spirit: filled with curiosity, togetherness and experiences that demonstrate how important life lessons can be learned anywhere.

A day filled with movement, team spirit and friendship
The visit to Košutnjak gave the students an opportunity to spend the first days of the new school year actively and in a positive atmosphere. Surrounded by greenery, they took part in a variety of sports games, walked, talked and enjoyed spending time with their classmates, transforming an ordinary school day into an experience worth remembering.
The sports activities brought plenty of energy and healthy competition, but their value went far beyond the final score of any game. Through shared challenges, students practised cooperation, communication, mutual support and respect for rules. Every team activity became another opportunity to get to know one another better and, after the summer break, rediscover the rhythm of working and spending time together.
Walks through Košutnjak offered a different pace. Away from the usual classroom schedule, there was time to talk, share summer stories and form new connections. These spontaneous moments are often especially valuable, helping students strengthen friendships and develop a stronger sense of belonging to their class and school community.
With plenty of laughter, movement and memorable moments, Košutnjak became a classroom without desks or walls, yet with more than enough room for new experiences. Through games and social interaction, students developed teamwork, communication, independence and a sense of community – skills that matter both inside the classroom and beyond it.
In this way, the beginning of the school year gained a special energy, making the return to school responsibilities richer through an experience that brought together physical activity, nature and friendship.
Classroom Without Walls: Experiences That Stay With Us
“Classroom Without Walls” is one of the concepts through which Savremena shows its students that education does not end when they leave the school building. On the contrary, a change of environment can create room for new ways of thinking, new questions, genuine communication and experiences that students can connect with everyday life.
Time spent outdoors encourages students to be active, cooperate and take initiative while also strengthening relationships with their peers outside the usual timetable. Combined with sports, movement and time in the fresh air, the school day takes on a new dimension – becoming an opportunity to develop independence, teamwork, communication and mutual trust.
That is why Košutnjak was an ideal setting for one of the first “Classroom Without Walls” experiences of the new school year. Without traditional desks, but with plenty of activities and positive energy, the students created some of their first shared memories of the autumn and stepped enthusiastically into the months ahead.
And this is only the beginning. Throughout the new school year, Savremena students will continue to encounter a variety of experiences beyond the school building, giving them opportunities to explore, stay active, learn from one another and discover the world around them. At Savremena, a classroom is not simply a place – it exists wherever there is an opportunity for new knowledge, meaningful experiences and growth together.
