GREEN SCHOOL

RAISING THE AWARENESS ABOUT ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

Savremena Elementary School is dedicated to the preservation of the environment. It was built upon the foundation and values of International School Savremena, which is a part of the important international Eco-school programme, initiated by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). This global project, implemented in Serbia by the Environmental Ambassadors for Sustainable Development organisation, involves over 12 million students from 58 countries, with the goal of active involvement in environment preservation and protection through education.

Savremena’s students and employees, who share the same eco-friendly orientation, undertake various campaigns, workshops, projects and specially adjusted lessons in order to contribute to the preservation and improvement of the environment of the entire society.

SAVREMENA ALWAYS CARES FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

Savremena Elementary School implements the eco-friendly school concept:

Paperless school

The use of technology eliminates the need for paper, contributing to the preservation of trees.

ENERGY SAVINGS

Modern building with good insulation helps lower energy consumption.

LOW CARBON EMISSION

The school is equipped with sensors that adjust the temperature as needed.

As part of their regular teaching, Savremena Elementary School’s students cover these subjects through a number of creative tasks and interactive exercises, such as: monitoring the energy consumption, exploring the possibilities of natural energy sources, learning about endangered species, polluted areas and environmentally active countries, studying toxic gas formulas and the ways to eliminate them…

“GREEN TEACHING” AT A MODERN SCHOOL

Through regular lessons and extracurricular activities such as workshops, lectures, outings in nature and volunteering, the students adopt the important knowledge about the need for environmental preservation.

Savremena’s students raise their awareness regarding the importance of climate change, the need for the preservation of plant and animal life, energy efficiency, the impact of waste and the importance of recycling, alternative modes of transport, the importance of the preservation of natural resources and the global consequences of individual actions. Every day, students and teachers take simple actions that helps preserve the environment:

RESEARCHING RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES

RESPONSIBLE WASTE DISPOSAL

PLANTING IN THE SCHOOLYARD

LET YOUR CHILD BECOME A PART OF THE ECO-CREW

The Eco-school project includes the Council for the Preservation and Protection of the Environment, open to anyone who feels the need to do something more for our planet.

By joining the eco-crew that comprises their friends from Savremena, as well as all over the world, Savremena’s students help preserve the environment by taking on creative roles such as:

  • eco-reporters: a network of young reporters that brings together over 77,000 young persons around the world, whose creative ideas, written reports and documentary photos help raise the awareness of the importance of environmentalism;
  • bird house architects: : our little flying friends need a roof over their head, too, and this is another for the students to express their creativity;
  • eco-gardeners: through designing a garden and planting trees and other plants, the students learn about botany, increasing the number of green spaces in the capital along the way;
  • young landscape designers: through arranging plants and helping cultivate them, the students participate in designing parks and other public areas.

Right from the start of their time at Savremena, the students are aware of the importance of preserving the environment and contribute, through dedicated activities in the classroom and outside, help improve the living conditions in Serbia in this regard. Caring for the environment is caring for our common future, and this motto is more than mere words to Savremena’s students.
