We were all students once – teacher portraits on the school wall

Scrapbook album photos reminding children of shared values

Many believe that childhood is the most beautiful time, and there are many poems, songs and stories about this period in life.

Savremena’s teachers came to the idea to remind students that this is the period in which we all gain knowledge for life.

The teachers had a great idea: they used their own childhood photos to show the kids what they looked like as children and students. The little ones, who know them very well as adults, found it particularly interesting to get to know them from this perspective. What did they like, how did they spend time together, what toys did they have, what were the city and country they grew up in like – these were the questions that accompanied the photos.

This way, the students discovered a part of history they didn’t know about. This was an unusual lesson for the students where they learnt through personal experience all the things one, perhaps, cannot learn on the Internet.

CHILDHOOD NEVER GOES AWAY

First the students tried to find their teachers on the unsigned photos. The task was really fun but difficult, as they didn’t expect such transformation. They realised that they all used to be students and that they went through the typical childhood stages; and that they all became mature and smart individuals who now work with children.

School, of course, is inseparable from childhood.

What were their teachers like at school?

Did they have favourite subjects and if so – which ones? What did they struggle with at school, how did they study, and what games did they play with their friends?

These are the questions which the children had for the teachers who are taking care of them at Savremena.

“WE WERE ALL STUDENTS ONCE” OR PEDAGOGY THROUGH PLAY

It’s important to cherish the child within us! This is particularly important for anyone who works in education, as it allows them to better understand children’s needs. Moreover, it enables them to implement the curriculum and adapt it to individual students.

The project entitled We Were All Students Once, created by teacher Danica Nikolić, is designed as an educational practice whereby students learn by discovering the world behind pictures. This way, they also connected with their teachers and realised that childhood is a common ground for all people, regardless of the fact that some of them – grew up.
