We celebrated International Day for Tolerance

Through a series of creative workshops, we reminded ourselves of some essential values

We celebrated International Day for Tolerance in Savremena in a multidisciplinary way, in each class in a different way. On that day, the teachers connected the learning material with values such as the right to diversity and freedom of speech, in various contexts, so that the students understood that these are not just abstract concepts but important principles that make our lives better and the world a better place.

The students of higher grades had the opportunity to demonstrate their debating skills in the classes of their class teacher by exchanging opinions on the importance of tolerance for the community. The eighth graders, as the oldest students of the school, discussed the topic of freedom of expression, as well as important issues of diversity. We encouraged them to express their different points of view while showing respect for all the participants of the conversation, and thus directly and in practice showed on a personal example what it means to respect and tolerate differences of opinion.

With the younger students, we touched on all important aspects of freedom of speech and the right to diversity through creative workshops. The students had no difficulties expressing their view of tolerance with drawings and songs, and the teachers encouraged them to use examples from everyday life to think about what tolerance implies.

At Savremena, we pay great attention to the comprehensive development of children as active members of society. We pay the same attention to nurturing their emotional and social competencies as well as their academic and intellectual potential.
