Upper primary students successful at school technology competition

Thanks to excellent cooperation and class activity, Savremena’s primary students are heading towards new victories

Regular and meaningful work always yields results. So, the dedication of upper primary students of Savremena truly paid off, as they achieved excellent results at the TiT school technology competition.
This means that the students are now quickly preparing for the next challenge – the municipal-level competition.

The school-level competition was open to students in Years 5, 6 and 7. The first part of the competition was a test, the second a practical assignment. Owing to the fact that their school uses the latest technology and that the lessons are enriched with interactive content, Savremena’s primary school students already have experience with technology-based learning. The TiT competition was, therefore, an excellent opportunity for the students to apply their tech knowledge and skills.

The main goal of this highly popular contest is to enable students to showcase their creative, innovative and entrepreneurial abilities. Also, to develop algorithmic thinking and understand the importance of acquiring functional knowledge related to a factor that defines success in the 21st century – technological awareness.

In lessons and Robotics club sessions, students learn in a creative manner with help from class teacher and technology teacher Maja Erić. And competitions such as this one encourage the students’ competitive drive and desire for advancement. In addition, the students can evaluate their results in relation to the results of other contestants.

GREAT EFFORT PAID OFF FOR THE STUDENTS, AND THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING

In preparation for the school TiT competition, the students completed two 250-question tests over a period of three weeks. They worked hard, maintained their focus and were ready for even more knowledge. This explains their achievement and we hope that it’s only the beginning, with new accomplishments coming in the municipal, city-wide and national competition.

The results in the school-level competition were as follows: In Year 7, Luka Jovanović had an excellent score of 96.5 points, Dušan Šušilović won 74, and Ilija Marinković 69 points.

In Year 6: Lena Lešnjak and Filip Perišić had a maximum score of 100 points, while Stefan Grubišić, Matija Momčilović and Vuk Virić won 97.5 points each.

Finally, the fifth-graders also did really well: Mateja Baketarić and Sofija Damjanov won 100 points, Mia Miloševič 95, Matija Baralić 96 and Natalija Nikolič 76.

Congratulations to all contestants who placed!

The next step is the municipal-level competition at the Milan Rakić Primary School, which will take place on 20 March. Because of the coronavirus situation, all safety measures will be taken so as to prevent contamination. This is by all means a difference compared to previous TiT competitions, which always had many contestants. However, this will not reduce the quality of the competition. On the contrary – because of the limited number of participants, it will be even more difficult to place high.

In any case, the students have invested a lot of effort to qualify for the next stage and deserve our praise. As a reward and incentive for the future, we have prepared a special activity for the students that will enable them to have a well-deserved break from the numerous activities they’ve been taking part in recently.

Good luck to everyone in the next stage!
