Students from class IV-1 at the workshop ``Robots for Sustainable Development``

Popularising science through play and socialising

Our students from class IV-1 participated in the workshop “Robots for Sustainable Development”, which is organised by the Science Festival and UŠĆE Shopping Center.

The scientific program “Ušće eksperimentarijum” which aims to popularise science and promote scientific culture among the youngest, was held at the UŠĆE Shopping Center. This program was realised with the help of long-standing science communicators from the Science Festival and the UčenIQ Citizens’ Association.

“Ušće eksperimentarijum” is a scientific program dedicated to primary school students from grades 1 to 4.

It was divided into two phases: the first, in which children attended one of four offered workshops that their teachers chose, and the second, in which children collectively visited an interactive scientific exhibition called the “Mini Science Festival”.

During the workshops, students covered specific topics and did tasks from one of the four workshops:

  1. My first code (solving tasks using robot bees).
  2. Lego Robotics.
  3. 3D Printing (learning how to handle and creatively create using 3D pens).
  4. Little Chemists (learning through fun and simple experiments).

After the workshop, in the interactive scientific corner, students had fun with Tesla’s coil that produced bolts of artificial lightning following the music rhythm and the Van Der Graaf generator. Additionally, through a series of interactive experiments with liquid nitrogen and dry ice, our students had the opportunity to learn about scientific and natural phenomena that are all around us in a fun and educational way.

This scientific program provided an excellent opportunity for students to meet, have fun, socialise, and acquire new knowledge. At the same time, this was a chance for the teaching staff of our school to encourage creativity, curiosity, and motivation among the students at the very beginning of the new school year.
