Second-grade students bravely faced their fears and overcame them

Fear of the dark, heights, and spiders is now a thing of the past for us

Fears are a part of childhood and growing up, starting with the fear of thunder, the dark, or the idea that there is a monster hiding in the closet. Children often cannot find the words to explain what specifically are they afraid of. The easiest way to get children to open up and share their thoughts is by having an honest conversation with them through play. Thus, through the “Conquer your fear” workshop, the students of Primary School Savremena successfully overcame all their fears.

At school age, children start to worry about their grades, and whether their peers accept them or not. Even adults can have deep-rooted fears and phobias about common things such as heights, or confined spaces.

At Savremena, we want children to always feel better and that’s what we always strive for. That’s why our second graders had a really different and interesting class, where they learned how to manage their own fears and build self-confidence so that they would be more independent and ready to overcome their fears in the future as well.

The students and their teacher went out to the schoolyard and after talking about everything that scares them, they got their main task – popping balloons that represented all their fears. This was also the most fun part of the day. With laughter and good fun, all fears disappeared.

At Savremena, children grow up into emotionally intelligent people

At Primary School Savremena, we firmly respect the position that the social and emotional development of a child is as important as, say, learning mathematical operations or letters.

The goal is to simultaneously teach children everything that is specified in the curriculum, but also how to think, feel, recognise their own and other people’s needs, as well as how to communicate with their peers.

Children who learn to know themselves well and know what they need for happiness and success will grow into people who will know how to get it – regardless of what knowledge will be required in the future.
