Savremena students visit new workplaces within the Parents at Work project
Valuable experience for Savremena students
The project Parents at Work is designed to introduce students to different professions, industries and private businesses firsthand, thus helping them to get an idea of the opportunities that await them after formal education, but also to help them understand the importance and applicability of education.
Thanks to this project, our students have an incredible opportunity to learn firsthand how different professions work, what a real work environment looks like, and what the value of independent entrepreneurship is.
During these visits, and learning about different professions, our students discover:
- what possibilities await in the future;
- what their future profession might look like;
- how applicable what they learn in school really is in the real world;
- how education helps them make the best decisions regarding their future;
- what adult life looks like, and how much effort they must put in to provide a comfortable life for their children.
In this way, students acquire applicable knowledge and at the same time come to understand the importance of education they receive in school.
Thus, Year 6 and 7 students spent a day at the Institute of Criminological and Sociological Research, Year 1 students got to know the work environment of the Mona company, while Year 5 students visited the Custom Security Systems company.
Visit to the Institute of Criminological and Sociological Research
During this visit, Savremena students learned what the age of criminal responsibility is, how punishment is carried out, and were introduced to the project Justice for Children.
A special part of the lecture was dedicated to the presentation of correctional work in the Sremska Mitrovica Penitentiary, where inmates work with stray dogs from the shelter.
The goal of the project is to make dogs from the shelter suitable for adoption, and to develop traits and skills in the inmates that will help them readjust to society and continue their life in the best possible way after serving their sentence.
Students had the opportunity to witness the power of love, because inmates convicted of various crimes changed their understanding of life after some time spent with dogs, and some even began to write poetry about their dogs. The thing that inmates and stray dogs share is the fact that both groups were rejected by society in some way, so the lyrics of these poems are very poignant and emotional.
This touching story ended with an exhibition of photographs taken during the dog training on the premises of the Institute.
The institute even has a dog of its own that was trained, and later adopted by the inmates, but it couldn’t join the kids due to the vaccine it received.
The children had many questions, and the hosts were more than happy to answer all of them. Our school is the first to visit the Institute in its entire existence, and our hosts hope that this visit will open a new chapter for the Institute.
Year 7 students visit Hyatt Hotel
Students visited all sectors of the hotel, and met the General Manager, Mr. Zafiris Lampadaridis. In the conversation with him, they learned various information about the functioning of hotels, and how they operate as miniature cities.
Students asked a lot of questions, because they wanted to learn what professions are featured in a hotel. In addition to this information, they also wanted to know which celebrities stayed at the Hyatt.
