Savremena holds a football tournament for grades five through seven

Good time together is a priority, the cup is only temporary

Football is among the most popular sports in many countries; it is often mentioned as the most important among the non-crucial things in the world. It is a sport where teamwork is paramount. Without team spirit and mutual support, there can be no great results. Savremena’s students showcased it all once again, making it clear that friendship is more important than any achievement.

The tournament – which is, slowly but surely, becoming a tradition – brought together students from grades 5 through 7. The class 6-1 took the cup, in the most memorable moment from the tournament, where the trophy was passed on to them by the last tournament’s winners, 6-2.

The winners were overjoyed, and they promised to take good care of the trophy until the next minifootball tournament, where they will be happy to pass it on to some other winners – or perhaps keep it for a while longer, shall they win again.

For children, sport is an excellent activity that can help them grow more happily, all the while preparing them for the roles and responsibilities of grownups

We are glad that Savremena’s students like sport and enjoy it, as its benefits are numerous:

  • enhances alertness, strength, flexibility and coordination;
  • develops a wide range of motor skills;
  • forms healthy, lifelong habits;
  • develops communication skills and advances interpersonal relations;
  • creates lasting friendships;
  • raises the readiness to accepts responsibilities and obligations;
  • teaches children organisation skills, selflessness and willingness to share with others;
  • develops work ethic;
  • develops sportspersonlike behaviour, fair play and sportspersonship;
  • enhances mood;
  • increases self-respect and self- confidence;
  • improves concentration and attention;
  • facilitates the achievement of better academic results;
  • develops moral virtues – honesty, fairness, justness, empathy, generosity, respect for others.
