Play by the author Mirjana Ilić, a teacher at Primary School Savremena, in the repertoire of Belgrade theatre.

An inspiring story about chess

Creativity and imagination are only a part of everyday qualities nurtured at Savremna. It is no coincidence that Savremena is a place where talented and ambitious students are growing up, because they have excellent role models in their equally talented and versatile teachers.

This is evidenced by a large audience that gathered to watch the play How many grains to chess, written by Savremena teacher Mirjana Ilić. One of the cast members is our Serbian language teacher, Marina Gava.

We are proud that they are members of the Savremena faculty, and we have no doubt that everyone will enjoy their play.

Join the audience of this brilliant play for children

The original play will be in the repertoire until the end of August, every weekend from 11 o’clock in the morning in the Teatrijum theater, which is located in the Captain Miša’s Mansion (University of Belgrade’s Rectorate building), in the natural shade of ancient linden trees, Vuka Karadžića Street 1, Stari grad.

When asked what topics are covered in the play, and why children should watch it, Mirjana underlines that the play is both educational and humorous, because it tells the legend of chess.

She is especially proud of the fact that our famous actor, Tihomir Stanić, the founder of the Teatrijum theater, suggested that she should write a play, knowing about her work with children.

Mirjana also wrote plays for Primary School Savremena, introducing students to the world of creativity, both through the children’s choir The Best Voices of Savremena where she is the choir master, and through acting classes and sketches she writes for children.

Her great love of acting and teaching inspired her to write the play How many grains to chess through which children can learn more about the origins of chess, and have a laugh, because it is a somewhat overlooked game that can be extremely useful for logical reasoning and training one’s brain.

If you want to learn why chess is considered a timeless game that falls somewhere between art, science and sport, this play will answer all your questions. Visit the Teatrijum theater and let art open your eyes to the magical world of chess.
