New football tournament, this time with cup in winners' hands

Futsal becomes a sporting favourite among Savremena's students

Football is one of those sports where the power of togetherness and team spirit often shine through, and the effort invested into practice never fails to pay off when it counts the most. The last tournament at Primary School Savremena was full of surprises, but the finals could not materialise due to a powerful storm. This time, the tournament was completed, to everyone’s joy and with a particularly satisfying outcome for the students from VI-1, who got the hold the cup in the end.

As we have reported, on 12 May, there was a memorable tournament where Savremena’s students showcased great sporting skills, talent and team spirit.

Mixed teams took the court and showed what they had, which was not little; the competitions included teams from grades four, five and six. This was an event to remember – many goals, along with some regretfully missed chances to score. However – nobody got the chance to raise the cup.

The unexpected rainstorm, which persevered for hours, did not let the finals come to a conclusion. The kids were hoping that the “great face-off” among the finalists – IV-1 and V-1 – would be held, but that was not “in the cards”, i.e., the clouds. Therefore, in the default spirit of sport and harmony, they were all declared the winners.

THIS TIME – A CONCRETE WINNER

The new “battle” could commence. This new tournament, like the last one, was a well-used opportunity for many of the students to show considerable talent. Their great moves thrilled the audience full of teachers and students, who, understandably, cheered for their own teams, i.e., their classmates.

The same teams applied, but there was a great turnaround. The last time, the tournament was dominated by IV-1 and V-1, who exhibited some true virtuosity.

This edition of Savremena futsal, however, was dominated by VI-1. It was simply their day. They won all games without much drama and finally – won the cup, and we sincerely congratulate them. Bravo, sixth-graders!

CUP CHANGES HANDS; FRIENDSHIP REMAINS ABOVE ALL

Of course, as always in sports, may the best one(s) win, but the friendship and the joy of sport shared by the students are more important than any particular victory.

PE teacher Željko Zarić presented the cup to VI-1, but there was another, interesting concept introduced, one which will greatly motivate the students going forward. Namely, rather than having a new cup awarded each year, the cup will spend a year in the winners’ classroom, where they will keep it until the next tournament, when they will give it to the new winners – or maybe get to keep it, provided that they win again.

Keep up the sporting spirit until the next tournament, and once again – bravo!
