New Corner Day – games, fun and competition for Savremena students

Learning in a good mood and a favorite school day

The school event which takes place several times a year, Corner Day, was held again at Primary School Savremena, with lots of fun activities for our students.

In the morning, before and after breakfast, they could participate in as many as seven different workshops. This time, students learned something new and had fun enjoying VR Starship, iPad quiz, Osmo, STEAM, music and biology workshop and a mix of three languages.

Corner Day is an opportunity for children to get acquainted with workshops and their principles, new school clubs, and available recreational activities. We applied different methods of work on this occasion, which is always interesting for children.

Riding on the VR Starship traditionally provides great fun for children. The ‘spaceship’ sitting in the hall of Primary School Savremena can hold up to six children, and they enjoyed different rollercoaster rides, as well as a journey through the human body with the help of virtual reality. They had most fun travelling to the stars, discovering the depths of the ocean, and enjoying a rally ride.

The second “Corner Day” was organized for elementary school students attending younger classes. As many as eight workshops were organized for students from 1st to 4th grade, through which they had great fun and learned a lot of new things. These were: VR Starship, iPad quiz, 3D coloring book, NTC polygon, VR glasses, “world culture” workshops, “magic hands and fingers” as well as “volcano experiment”. A lot of good atmosphere and positive energy was created.

One of the kids’ favorite activities was “3D coloring book”. The students drew figures that became three-dimensional with the help of tablets! This method of play especially encourages creativity and learning. But also imagination. An imagined superhero, animal, object or abstraction – practically revives and additionally ignites children’s imagination – is such an important aspect of personality.

Carefully designed workshops for the development of multiple intelligences

Given the fact that there are different types and approaches to learning, Savremena nurtures all of them with a single goal in mind: to encourage the development of multiple intelligences in our students, and ensure overall children development.

The development of multiple intelligences at Savremena is carried our not only in class, but during extracurricular activities as well, and organised so as to encourage the development of as many types of intelligence as possible through multidisciplinary lessons and carefully designed tasks. Teachers’ role in the development of specific types of student intelligence is crucial, because every student has different talents and abilities, and it is up to the teacher to identify and nurture them.
