Morning exercise – activity to awaken mind and body

Children’s growth and development as an educational priority

A five-minute morning exercise at the beginning of a school day is a practice implemented in all Years at Primary School Savremena.

In the classrooms, the students are shown exercises designed to help them awaken their mind and body, after which they can resume their regular activities.

We all know how the phrase goes: a healthy mind in a healthy body. It has been scientifically proven that recreational and sports activities are good for our brain cells and the overall muscle tone. We at Primary School Savremena strongly believe that sports and exercise are vital for the development of children’s health and personality.

Morning exercise lessons are among the students’ favourites, as they bring smiles to the little ones’ faces and kickstart their day. The exercises mostly include stretching and start with low-intensity movements. The students try to stand up on their toes as much as possible, or touch their feet with their fingers.

NEW ENERGY FOR A NEW DAY

According to experts, we should exercise 5–10 minutes each morning and choose activities that stimulate circulation, strengthen our muscles and boost our metabolism.

In order for this brief exercise to be healthy, it is advised to opt for low-intensity movements and avoid more demanding cardio activities, such as running. Recommended post stretch-out activities include hip rotations, light ankle hops, squats or half-squats, neck and arm exercises, light jumps, and push-ups.

It is particularly beneficial to work out in the morning, as this way we prepare our body for our daily activities.

OUR PRIMARY STUDENTS’ DEVELOPMENT IS AN EDUCATIONAL PRIORITY

At Primary School Savremena we place great focus on regular exercise, as it provides our students with the energy they require in order to efficiently meet all their obligations and assignments. Physical activity is present not only in lessons, but during school trips as well, when students partake in different sports events. Then there is ice skating, swimming, archery, zip line, dragon boat racing, and one of the most important events are Savremena’s Sports Games, a real treat for the little ones.

The modern age has made children lead sedentary and passive lives thanks to TV, video games, social media, and the like. Generally, students’ needs for physical activity are not met, and sport is the only way to enable them to experience full development.

Just like the best educational institutions in the world, Savremena sees sports activities as a powerful tool that contributes to the development of cognitive and motor skills. This is why it’s essential to include it in education systems.
