Life Skills Programme – what do we know about money

Financial literacy for the youngest primary school students

Did you know that the 5,000 dinar banknote has the picture of Slobodan Jovanović, vice-president of the Ministerial Council of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and former dean of the Faculty of Law?

Although we all come into contact with money very often, some knowledge still slips by us – that’s why Primary School Savremena’s Life Skills Programme is here, so that you can acquire knowledge about everything that is not normally taught in schools.

Primary School Savremena students of grades I to IV joined Vida Tomašević, senior expert associate for exhibitions and education at the National Bank of Serbia, who held a workshop for them in an extremely interesting and creative way on the topics of “Famous personalities featured on dinar banknotes in circulation” and “A banknote of my choice”.

At this workshop, our youngest students had the opportunity to learn about famous people featured on the banknotes in circulation and learn in a fun way what elements each banknote must contain, that is, how to recognise fake money. By assembling puzzles of banknotes in circulation, the students gradually learnt about the elements that the banknotes must contain, but also about the inspiring characters that are featured on these banknotes.

Financial literacy is a 21st-century skill that is a prerequisite for a successful economic future. Thanks to the Life Skills Programme “Things You Will Never Learn in School”, Savremena also improves these skills in students from their earliest period of schooling.
