Life Skills Programme: We learned to sew!

Students of Primary School Savremena have acquired new skills by expressing their creativity using a needle and thread

This month, lower grades students at Savremena had the opportunity to acquire another important life skill – they learned to sew! A needle, thread, buttons and colourful materials became powerful tools for expressing creativity for our students who enjoyed discovering what they could make with their hands.

Threading the needle was not easy because of their great excitement, but with a lot of care, nimble fingers, and a sharp eye, they managed to do everything. They learned to tie knots and got acquainted with various types of stitches, so they immediately put this new knowledge into practice.

The more dexterous and brave ones dared to try to hand sew the invisible stitch, while the younger and more creative ones used all their new skills to make interesting New Year’s dolls from old socks. Each doll got its own story, and together we acquired a very useful life skill.

Exercising and developing fine motor skills is important for the acquisition of manual skills, and it also directly affects general intellectual development. When the fingers are engaged, the brain works at full speed, which we could see in this workshop.

Dear parents, now, after this workshop, we have great news for you – there will be no more torn socks in your home – give your child a thread and a needle and enjoy their creativity.
