Life Skills Programme – Students of Savremena acquired lifesaving skills

Thanks to Red Cross volunteers, students learned what first aid is

On Thursday, 22 December, the students of Primary School Savremena acquired perhaps the most useful life skills. Thanks to Red Cross volunteers, the children learned what first aid is, how to provide it and how we can save someone’s life.

Children now know that first aid consists of a series of measures that we can take at the scene of an accident in order to save someone’s life or prevent further deterioration of injuries and health. First aid differs from professional medical aid which is provided only by doctors because anyone can learn to provide it.

When medical aid cannot be provided immediately, because there are no doctors near the scene of the accident, our students know what to do: they know how to restore heart function, give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, and dress a wound or temporarily bandage an injury.

We would like to thank the Red Cross from the municipality of Novi Beograd, and we would like to say to our students the following:

“Man becomes great exactly in the degree in which he works for the welfare of his fellow-men.”
– Mahatma Gandhi
