International Literacy Day was celebrated in Savremena!

We learn about the importance of literacy

At Primary School Savremena, we focus on project-based teaching, which is why we celebrated Literacy Day through a series of projects. Although Serbian language and literature classes are suitable for marking this date, younger students also had a series of interesting workshops on this topic during their after-school care!

Along with the teacher Katarina Vasiljković, the students had the task of forming words from the given letters, and then sticking them on the wall and discussing why that word is spelled that way. They used words where students of their age make the most frequent mistakes when spelling, and in this way, they significantly improved their spelling skills!

Seventh and eighth-grade students created a kind of process panel in the school hall, on the bulletin board, and there you could find interesting facts about the history of Serbian literacy.

On the other hand, for those more curious, there was the popular encyclopedia, “A thousand whys and a thousand because” right next to the panel, where students could read various interesting facts!
In the Serbian language and literature class, fifth-grade students had the task of setting themselves goals related to improving their literacy.

That task was not at all easy, but with the help of the teacher, every set goal seemed more attainable! Step by step to better literacy!

At Savremena, we especially try to ensure that every activity is related to the curriculum, but also to encourage children’s curiosity and creativity.
