Global perspectives in the fight against school violence

Peer education plays an important role in the prevention of violence

Research projects are not a new thing for our sixth-grade students: with the Checkpoint testing being done, they completed the Cambridge Primary Programme and obtained their qualifications, so it was time to show their presentation and research skills to the public.

We dedicated the month of December to researching the topic of school violence and tried to explore global, national and personal perspectives on this problem. According to the results provided by the National Centre for Education Statistics, we learned that 1 in 5 students was a victim of peer violence. Nurturing a safe environment for the growth and development of all students in Primary School Savremena, we encouraged our sixth graders to conduct research and find and present measures that need to be taken to prevent emotional, physical and cyberbullying.

The students had a complex task in front of them, considering that they also had to conduct survey research on different types of violence in order to collect the most relevant data. Furthermore, by comparing the collected data and creating cause-and-effect relationships, they came up with different ideas on how to prevent or reduce peer violence.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our sixth graders, who once again managed to draw everyone’s attention to what is really important to us – safe, healthy and secure environment and access to the highest quality education.
