Food and sports make us strong: Group workshop on global topics

International School students give lecture to primary school students

As part of their Global Perspectives project task, International School students gave a lecture for junior class students of Primary School Savremena.

Their project “Food and Sports Make Us Strong” is aimed at raising awareness about problems with obesity and unhealthy lifestyles. All workshops were in English.

Year 11 students launched this project for Global Perspectives – one of the most interesting subjects based on real-life projects, whereby students learn and gain skills through fun activities, which contributes to greater engagement and a more positive attitude towards the subject.

The goal of the project is to educate young people on the importance of exercising and leading a healthy lifestyle. Therefore, the students designed projects in accordance with Cambridge Programme standards, where they created leaflets and presentations for younger students.

PEER TUTORING FOR A BETTER TRANSFER OF KNOWLEDGE

This type of togetherness in a project empowers students from both our schools to cooperate, engage in peer communication, and raise awareness about the problem of obesity and unhealthy lifestyles.

The reaction of students in all creative lessons was great. They shared examples from their surroundings and connected them through various games with the values promoted by the project.

This develops peer tutoring, which is particularly important for younger students. The project will be continued with another group of workshops on the same topic and with the same approach in the second term.

DEVELOPING CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS AND ACQUIRING APPLICABLE KNOWLEDGE

The Global Perspectives syllabus allows students to gain knowledge and skills in different subjects and learn how to combine them and use them in real-life situations. The students learn about current and important global issues that refer to their present and their future. They do research, make conclusions and express their views. The knowledge gained in this fashion is contemporary, permanent and applicable.

This kind of innovative approach to learning puts “school” knowledge in a practical, real-life context. It enables students to develop critical and problem solving skills, and to strengthen their research, communication and teamwork skills, which is necessary for academic and career success.

Savremena’s approach to teaching is different, innovative, interdisciplinary and creative, which is why, among other things, it deserves its place among Cambridge Global Perspectives schools.

In addition to being the most modern Cambridge primary school in Serbia, Savremena can also boast being one of the few Cambridge Global Perspectives schools in the region. This means that the students can attend unique, interdisciplinary Global Perspectives lessons which enable them to develop their skills and critical thinking, and learn in a creative manner.
