European day of languages at Primary School Savremena - Choosing the best video

26 september – a day on which we celebrate the beauty of european languages

Students of Primary School Savremena took part in a contest on the European Day of Languages, which is celebrated on 26 September. This day is important as it places focus on the significance and beauty of every European language.

The students were supposed to make a video on their phones presenting themselves in a foreign language or their mother tongue, or make a video of themselves and their friends telling a joke or anecdote, also in a foreign language or their mother tongue.

After a long vote, the final decision was as follows:

1st place – Teodora Hodžić (V-1)

2nd place – Zoe Devetak (VII-1)

3rd place – Mateja Baketarić (V-1)

Mateja won 3rd place thanks to his fluent English.

Zoe Devetak speaks English almost as a first language, which is why she deservedly won second place!

Teodora showed that she was a true polyglot, demonstrating the direction everyone should take – proficiency in several European languages!

Right behind the winning trio, Adriana and Emilija spoke French, showing great skills gained at school.

Lazar and Sara were excellent and courageous in their videos in which they spoke German and English.

Finally, Nera also showcased fine English skills.

The European Day of Languages was first celebrated in 2002, after the success of the European Year of Languages in 2001. The Day is organised by the European Union and the Council of Europe.

Europe is lucky to have a cultural diversity with 200 languages, 24 official EU languages, and some 60 regional or minority languages. These numbers do not include the languages spoken by people from other parts of the world who have come to the EU, who have enriched the diversity of the languages spoken on the continent.

We are proud of the fact that Primary School Savremena is part of this nice European tradition. We congratulate all students and thank them for publicly showcasing their language skills.
