We construct what imagination says: Creativity development and fun times with LEGO

Children embark on educational adventure through beloved LEGO club

LEGO bricks are among the world’s favourite toys; they help develop children’s creativity and stimulate their cognitive processes.
One of the most popular extracurricular creative practices at Savremena is the LEGO club, where children use these “magic” bricks to turn their imagination into a fun reality.

Moving trains, superheroes, enchanted castles, medieval knights, construction machines, steampunk ships and countless other creations stir the imagination and render each new game unstoppable. This kind of play stimulates thought processes, develops creativity, advances motor skills and facilitates the learning of colours and shapes.

PLAY AS THE CRUCIAL CHILDHOOD ACTIVITY

Playing is conducive to cognitive processes, creativity, learning colours and shapes, and to imagination in general. Playing in the LEGO club, the children encounter bricks that they can combine into a multitude of shapes, which inspires them to use their imagination and enter the “long play”.

These toys are not limited to the child’s current age or a single type of play – they adjust to age and environment as needed. They are useful for a child in ways that a grown up might even not be able to imagine. Most importantly, with LEGO, the child keeps going on, overcoming any obstacle, constructing, deconstructing and reconstructing in new ways; imagining on – namely, playing in the fullest sense of the word.

This is how modern students set the foundation for long-term creative thinking, as they learn to view the problem from several angles and come up with different solutions. The skills they gain help them overcome “grown-up” obstacles that await and successfully face the challenges that lie ahead.

TRUE ENGINEERING CHALLENGES AND THINKING OUT OF THE BOX

The students are especially fond of the technical bricks (the Technic collection), where they advance their building skills by making, for instance, fantastic cars that move at top speeds, with a satisfying drag race follow-up. The wide variety of available designs includes garages and houses, lifters and excavators, cranes and bridges, even cherry pickers.

The only question is: where does the imagination begin, and where does it end? In the LEGO world, there is no precise answer to this, as wholesome fun lifts the spirit, rendering time less relevant.

The LEGO club is exquisitely practical and useful; playing with LEGO sets, younger and older students alike are introduced into the world of science and engineering, learning how to use levers, gears, wheels and axles and how important balance is in building.

When LEGO bricks are combined with contemporary apps, the children also adopt important digital knowledge that will help them make the most of new technologies in the future. All in all, this is a triumph of creativity and a fun road to success.
