A DAY OF PRIDE – PRIMARY SCHOOL SAVREMENA CELEBRATES ITS BIRTHDAY!

Today, 1 June 2020, Primary School Savremena is celebrating its first birthday.

Behind us are 12 months of shared work on realising the most noble of missions: forming smart, curious and hard-working young people who will change the world with the knowledge and skills gained at the most modern educational institution of its kind in the country and the region. They have already showcased their potential; Savremena is only helping them reach it to the fullest.

FROM BABY STEPS TO GIANT STRIDES

Over the past year, the students, their parents and all of us from Savremena went from baby steps to giant strides forward. We’ve played, spent time together, had fun and, most of all, learnt many useful and important things.

Today is a WONDERFUL DAY… Firstly, because the children are back in school and secondly, because it’s our first birthday. We chose the first of June, Children’s Day, as our School Day, as on this date we celebrate children’s rights and the most important issues in education, safety, human rights, health protection and different events for children”, says Jasmina Franolić, the principal of Primary School Savremena and continues:

Our school is a part of the LINK educational Alliance, an educational family that has been dedicated to these issues for decades, determined to enhance education, elevate children’s safety and protection and meet their needs by organising different educational events. The International Children’s Day was first proclaimed in Geneva during the World Conference on Child Welfare in 1925, and officially adopted in the international community in 1950. As of this year, it is also Primary School Savremena’s Day, a day on which we celebrate our unity and our achievements…

WE ARE WITNESSING THE BIRTH OF SUCCESSFUL MATHEMATICIANS, ARTISTS, PROGRAMMERS…

Dan škole

One of the pillars of Primary School Savremena is the unique individual approach to each student, enabling them to realise their full potential. Due to this relationship, built on mutual trust and the understanding of individual needs of each child, Savremena’s primary students relaxed in the school’s familial environment and gave us an insight into their vast talent, skills and interests.

They convinced us that they will grow to become mathematical champions, masters of visual arts, poetry and music, polyglots, top athletes and other curious and creative geniuses.

SAVREMENA’S PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENTS – SUCCESSFUL MATHEMATICIANS

At the school maths competition, Year 3 students Hajdi Gajić and Luka Mitić, and Year 5 students Lena Lešnjak and Lilita Milčić, achieved remarkable results and qualified for the municipal competition.

First-graders also had excellent results at the Misliša mathematical competition. I-1 student Daria Denisova won second place, while her classmate Petar Stamenić received praise for the number of points he won in the contest. Around 54,500 primary school students from all over Serbia took part in this competition.

LENA AND LILITA’S FLAWLESS PERFORMANCE AT THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE COMPETITION

Our fifth-graders also participated in the Hippo English language competition. Lena Lešnjak and Lilita Milčić scored the maximum number of points.

5TH-GRADERS SHINE AT BRAINFINITY

A team of Year 5 students comprising Lena Lešnjak, Vuk Virić, Vanja Pavlović and Aleksa Rikič took part in the Brainfinity contest.

LITERARY AND VISUAL WORKS AND A QUIZ FOR A PERFECT DAY

Radovi za Dan škole

For School Day, teachers Melanija Savić and Milić Vukojičić created an educational and fun quiz tailored to the students’ age groups.

To access the quiz, the students can visit the link join.nearpod.com and enter the code OMSNQ or visit this link https://share.nearpod.com/vsph/a5qYxVuOMu and simply enter their names.

In addition, Serbian teacher, Sara Popov Petrović, invited the students to partake in a contest entitled “I’m travelling through time towards my Savremena”, designed for School Day. Here are the best entries:

I’m travelling through time towards my Savremena

I wonder if my parents could have ever imagined what kind of things and technology would exist in my time. Even I couldn’t have imagined that a school could be so modern…

We go to school to learn many things, but this is done differently at my school. Since day one we have encountered things that other schools don’t have.

Can you imagine that my school has a table with a screen and computer! It’s a gigantic screen. We were amazed when we saw it for the first time as we don’t have that at home. We also have tablets, smart whiteboards, lazy bags for chairs… All of this is designed for learning and playing. In the robotics classroom there is a dancing robot! That’s my favourite thing at the school. It can make complex movements and dance to any music we play. I’m always happy when I see it. Also, we have a telephone box at the school. It looks just like the ones I’ve seen abroad. Now I don’t have to travel so far to take a picture inside one. In our spare time, my friends and I play pool. Sometimes we even play with our older schoolmates. It’s so fun!

Since we got a virtual spaceship in the school hallway, we’re all eager to go for a ride. The spaceship can fit an entire class.

Our schoolyard is also unique. We have all sorts of equipment for sports and play and we can’t wait for PE lessons to play there. Our teachers show us how to use this equipment and play… And they play with us!

Often when I talk about these things with my friends who attend other schools, they don’t believe me.

I think there are many more surprises to come and I am so glad to be attending such an unusual school.
