Life skills Programme – we have acquired useful self-defence skills

Students of Savremena practised aikido for the first time

On Thursday, 15 December, the students of Primary School Savremena put on their sports equipment, took off their shoes, stepped on the tatami mat and practised aikido for the first time, all as part of a Life Skills workshop. We learned how to be cautious, defend ourselves in case of an attack, and use our skills exclusively for self-defence.

Thanks to the real aikido club “Atom”, their anti-violence support programme and an educational workshop, our students first warmed up and then in pairs acted out realistic scenarios, such as being attacked from behind when unlocking an apartment door or being attacked by a passerby on the street.

The aikido club instructors imparted valuable skills to our students, taught them useful techniques, and provided them with a thorough explanation of when and how to apply these techniques. In this way, the students worked in teams and treated their partners with full attention and respect, committing to use their skills only for the purpose of self-defence and defence of their friends.

The Life Skills Programme of Primary School Savremena once again shows why our school is truly different.

We would like to thank the real aikido club “Atom” and we are looking forward to spending time together soon!
