World Poetry Day celebrated at Savremena
We enjoyed reading and recitation
A variety of activities were organised at Savremena in celebration of World Poetry Day. One of those activities was a school poetry recitation competition that especially attracted junior students of Savremena, who enjoy reading, recitation and poetry discussions. Poetry develops their cognitive abilities and language skills, which helps them take part in discussions and express their opinions and emotions clearly and articulately.
The habit of reading should be nurtured throughout one’s life due to all its benefits, but it is also important to develop and encourage a love of reading from an early childhood. We are happy that our students love poetry and that they participated in the recitation competition with enthusiasm.
The expert jury, composed of Serbian language and literature teachers Marina Gava and Marija Šaponjić had a tough decision, because a number of students demonstrated exceptional skill.
The winner in the junior category was Antonina Tufegdžić, and in senior category, Maša Pašić. What set these two girls apart was their extraordinary talent, good choice of a poem, and their commitment to practicing recitation. They will be our school’s representatives in the municipal recitation competition.
Konstatnin Petrović and Zara Zečević also managed to distinguish themselves among other contestants, and Nađa Otanjac and Darija Denisova received special awards for suggestiveness in recitation.
In addition to participating in the recitation competition, our student Milica Trikić sent her poetry to the call for poetry submissions Zapesničimo, organised by the High School Sveti Ahilije from Arilje.
We wish good luck to all our contestants, and poetry lovers!
Savremena’s virtual reading club
This day will also be remembered by the exhibition of our students’ poetry in the school lobby. Another great project that our students launched in partnership with Serbian language teachers is Savremena’s virtual reading club. The idea is to post student works, news from the literary world, and calls for various literary competitions on Instagram. We would like to invite you to follow us on Instagram at: reading_club_savremena.
Savremena is truly different, because we use modern technologies to preserve tradition and the love of reading.
