Workshop on Flower Planting: Learning Blooms within the Life Skills Programme

Empowering Youth through Practical Horticulture

As part of our Life Skills programme, biology teacher Aleksandar Perić organized a flower planting workshop where students had the opportunity not only to learn about plant biology but also about the importance of environmental care.

Introduction to Horticulture Basics

The workshop began with a detailed introduction to different types of flowers, their specific water and light requirements, and how these differences affect their planting and maintenance. Teacher Perić also explained various methods of obtaining seeds and how to properly prepare the soil. This lecture laid the foundation for the practical application of knowledge, giving students a comprehensive understanding of the processes involved in planting and caring for plants.

Practical Application of Knowledge in the School Garden

After the theoretical part, practical work followed in the school garden where students had the opportunity to independently plant ten different species of flowers. This activity not only stimulated their creativity and teamwork but also taught them the value of patience and effort. By observing their plants grow, students develop a sense of responsibility and pride in their work.

Many students, inspired by the newly acquired knowledge and experience from the workshop, expressed a desire to independently plant flowers in their yards or on their balconies over the weekend. This initiative demonstrates how the workshop not only taught students about plants but also motivated them to apply their knowledge in real life, thereby improving their homes and the local community. The flower planting workshop within the Life Skills programme is evidence that school can be a place where learning and practical skills successfully merge, providing students not only with the knowledge needed for school tests but also with skills they will use throughout their lives. Such activities lay the foundation for the development of proactive, independent, and environmentally conscious individuals.
