Students at Savremena Primary School have once again shown that learning can grow into creativity and produce something truly tangible. As part of a project within the Global Perspectives subject, last year’s Year 5 students and students from class 6-1 wrote their own books, combining knowledge, creativity, research and teamwork.

Year 5 students created a collection of fantasy stories in which they demonstrated just how far imagination and creative thinking can take them through their own ideas, characters and fictional worlds.

Their older schoolmates from class 6-1 took the project a step further by writing a futuristic novel with themes and content that are remarkably mature for their age. Working on a project of this kind required much more than writing alone – students had to develop ideas, consider different perspectives, make decisions together and shape their concepts into a complete and coherent story.

Cambridge Global Perspectives encourages students to research, ask questions, explore topics from different points of view and present their own opinions through well-reasoned arguments.

Writing a book is a perfect example of a project through which students develop creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration at the same time. Rather than remaining within the classroom, their knowledge results in something tangible – a piece of work they can share with others and be proud of.

This is only the beginning of a new tradition at Savremena Primary School. The plan is for older students in the Cambridge programme to take on the challenge of creating a new book every year as part of Global Perspectives.

The idea is to print these student-authored books and make them a permanent part of the school library, where they can be read by future generations of students.

In this way, a dedicated Cambridge Corner will gradually take shape – a space that showcases the work of our students and, year after year, reflects their ideas, creativity and progress.
