We marked the European Day of Languages in a creative and professional way

We discovered the beauty and importance of foreign languages through creative workshops

Students of Primary School Savremena marked the European Day of Languages through different activities and practical work in foreign language classes. With the aim of raising awareness of the beauty and importance of knowing different languages, we pointed out the fact that language learning is not only a natural human need but also a right of all people.

In the Cambridge programme classes with the teacher Tanja Kocić, through a project assignment, sixth-grade students learned different greetings in several foreign languages. In that way, they had the opportunity to feel the rhythm and melody of different languages. They wrote down all the new words on hammer paper to keep them as a reminder in their classroom and to inspire them to continue discovering the beauty of foreign languages.

In the Serbian language and literature classes, seventh and eighth-grade students talked about language families. Since it is also a lesson in the history of languages for the eighth graders, they expanded their already acquired knowledge on this project. It was interesting to look for common features of languages belonging to the same language groups.

In the after-school care, second graders had the task of drawing the flags of certain countries and learning to introduce themselves in the language of the given country. Apart from this, the students also talked about the countries they have visited so far and their impressions of the languages they heard there.

The European Day of Languages in our school is marked in a creative and multidisciplinary way, and our students look forward to these kinds of classes the most!
