Unusual biology lesson: savremena’s primary students learn from savremena’s secondary school student
Savremena gimnazija student amazed the class with a series of interesting experiments
At Savremena Gimnazija, the students have endless possibilities. They are encouraged to learn in a truly different manner and foster a healthy personality. Aleksandar, a class I-1 student at Savremena Gimnazija, proved this to be more than true.
On World Science Day, celebrated on Tuesday, 10 November, ahead of Global Education Week, Aleksandar visited a biology lesson held by teacher Dijana Šarac and conducted several interesting experiments to the delight of Savremena’s primary students.
If we present biology to the children through unusual experiments, rather than pure theory, we can change their perception and make this subject their favourite. This is the attitude of young Aleksandar Kašerić, who showcased his biology skills on World Science Day.
Savremena’s primary students already enjoy the benefits of peer tutoring, whereby they open up new worlds by teaching one another. Nonetheless, they were impressed by the knowledge shown by their secondary school colleague.
In a white coat like a true scientist, he explained biology concepts in a manner tailored to his younger colleagues. He then asked each student to approach the teacher’s desk and do individual experiments using laboratory tools (pipettes, measuring cylinders or retorts).
The students were extremely excited about the lesson and, most importantly, they learnt a lot through practical examples. Teachers should really be proud in such situations, as their subject becomes the students favourite. Moreover, the children teach each other and share the excitement of learning through play.
Savremena Gimnazija’s talented student Aleksandar Kašerić promised to come back and show the children new experiments. We can’t wait!
