Unforgettable day at Ada
Last week, students of Primary School Savremena had the opportunity to have some fun, learn and explore, enjoying an unconventional adventure at Ada Ciganlija which lasted for three days.
Activities at Ada were carefully designed. Students tried themselves in unusual games organised into seven checkpoints. They started with orienteering, a specific workshop designed for children where they learned navigation by means of a map, compass and the surrounding terrain. Then they tried the zip line – using the mountaineering gear, they travelled down the cable in a simulation of flight, thus overcoming their fear of heights.
Overcoming obstacles and challenges required team work and resourcefulness
Among other activities our students tried at Ada was AirSoft, where the children wielded replica guns and plastic projectiles trying to collect as many points as possible, and relying on their accuracy and calmness to hit the target.
They also practiced archery using a real bow and arrow to shoot the target, just like Robin Hood. There was another shooting game, the Perfect Hit, where children knocked obstacles down using special snowballs, thus practicing accuracy and their sense of space.
The remaining two activities were particularly unusual. Rowing the boats that look like the infamous dragon boats of mighty Vikings, children tried to complete their challenges in the shortest possible time, which required team work and a good leader.
Finally, camping taught them how to set up a tent, how to start a fire, what the primus and prusik are, and what the purpose of knots is.
Activities are part of the “Classroom without Walls” concept in an eco-friendly environment
These small and engaging sport workshops at Ada are just a beginning of a series of varied content designed so as to allow children to familiarize themselves with nature and the most famous sights of their hometown together and outside of school, whereby their classroom becomes a “classroom without walls”. This is a concept Primary School Savremena adopted after observing successful examples of such education around the world, which is just another thing that makes our school truly different.
Primary School Savremena is recognisable for including active workshops, projects and customised lessons that take place out of doors into its activities, thus turning into a green classroom where children may learn and develop in close contact with nature.
Various research shows that outdoor games help develop children’s cognitive and motor abilities, which is precisely the idea behind these activities at Ada.
It should be added that this is just the beginning of the school year and that our students can expect many other, unusually designed and unique activities, which will allow them to develop their creativity and spirit of exploration. Every week, new surprises and knowledge await in the form of extracurricular activities, especially when it comes to raising their environmental awareness, which makes Primary School Savremena a green school of sorts.
