Love is what matters – The week of love in a truly different school
Universal messages of love and the sharing of joy in workshops
The entire week before 14 February is dedicated to love at Primary School Savremena.
Our students spread love and tenderness through different activities and with a lot of enthusiasm, talking about the importance of love in mutual relationships and life.
In honour of the Week of Love, we organised a workshop called The Love Birds of Our Planet. The skilled hands of our students cut the paper in different colours, shaping it into models of birds from different countries: The Philippines, France, Spain, Italy, Serbia, North Macedonia, Sweden, England, Russia, Greece and Turkey.
The workshop got its name from the birds that live in different habitats (or in this case birdhouses) and chirp “I love you” in the language of their native country: students inserted the translation of the expression “I love you” in different languages on each bird’s beak. The story that love is powerful and universal pervaded the workshop.
Love is the same, wherever it is. It is in the air and in all creatures, and we can encourage each other to spread love through our actions and activities like this.
SPECIAL CONTEST FOR TEACHERS
Employees of Primary School Savremena also participate in the Week of Love. They can submit their poetic works about love for the contest from 8 through 17 February, by putting them in a special love box installed at the school’s information desk.
We are sure our employees, same as their students, will be inspired and win a special award. The winner poem will be selected by the Principal of Primary School Savremena, Jasmina Franolić, and Marina Gava, Serbian Language and Literature teacher.
WHAT DOES LOVE MEAN TO YOU? – THROUGH MATHEMATICAL CONCEPTS AND SYMBOLS
In another unusual school assignment, the students – who are familiar with the world of numbers and maths – wrote love messages and definitions using mathematical symbols. They designed cute heart-shaped formulas and creative sets containing “love” elements.
This encouraged the students to immerse themselves into the world of maths in a truly different fashion. Who can dislike maths after seeing their creations? In other words, who can claim that love cannot be written in formulas?
ONE MUST LEARN TO NURTURE LOVE, AND IT MAY COME WHEN WE LEAST EXPECT IT
Love is a powerful force. It has always been the inspiration of many artists and poets; it started wars, and reconciled worlds. Its day is 14 February. Many pay attention to the powerful force of love and falling in love only on this day. However, Primary School Savremena has gone a step further. We dedicated the entire week to the importance of care and tenderness. We explained how important it is to surprise your loved ones, to make them laugh and show them love.
Valentine’s Day is an opportunity to escape our everyday life and walk on “pink clouds” for a while. Students had different creative ideas on how to represent the state of being in love. The colours they use are always warm, cheerful and remind one of a pleasant dream where everything is beautiful, which is exactly what being in love is like.
Together with their teachers, students learn how to nurture love. They learn how important it is to have mutual respect, understanding and patience for your loved ones. Sometimes a tender look, embrace or a touch are more important than anything we could say, and what is special about love is that when we give it to others – they return it manifold. And it often comes when we don’t expect it. Is there anything more beautiful?
THE MOST POWERFUL EMOTION IS IN THE WORDS “I LOVE YOU”
The expression “I love you” can mean many things, but in its purest form, love is the most powerful emotion there is. It erases all insecurities, and every doubt we have ever felt. It brings peace, the sense of belonging, and the realization of one’s own worth. What we are and what we may become.
Love needs to be nurtured and expressed all the time, otherwise, it will die away. And, as Honoré de Balzac reminds us: “Love is the only passion which suffers neither past nor future.” In other words, we need to love now, sincerely and devotedly.
