The “Happy Learning” Project
History, landmarks and sports activities
As part of the “Happy Learning” project, students of Savremena Primary School visited Valjevo, a city rich in history, culture and important stories that preserve the memory of our glorious and heroic past. This visit was an opportunity for students to revise their lessons in a different way, connect classroom knowledge with real places and experience learning beyond the school environment.
During their stay in Valjevo, the students visited museums, monuments and landmarks that bear witness to significant events, people and values from our history. Every step through the city became an opportunity for discussion, reflection and new questions, because history is best understood when it is seen, experienced and connected with the place where it happened.
A special value of this day came from our hosts, the students of “Sestre Ilić” Primary School, who welcomed us warmly and helped make the visit a day of friendship, cooperation and shared learning. Meeting peers from Valjevo enriched the experience even further, showing that knowledge becomes even more meaningful when it is shared.

A classroom without walls in the heart of Valjevo
The visit to Valjevo showed how engaging learning can be when school content is connected with direct experience. Instead of learning about history only from textbooks, students had the opportunity to discover it through museum displays, monuments and city spaces that preserve traces of the past. In this way, lessons about the glorious and heroic moments of our history became closer, clearer and more memorable.
The “Happy Learning” project encourages exactly this kind of education – active, exploratory and focused on the child. Through visits to important landmarks, students connected history, geography, culture and civic education, while developing awareness of the importance of preserving tradition and respecting heritage. Learning took place through observation, conversation, questions and shared conclusions, allowing students to become active participants rather than passive observers.
The students of “Sestre Ilić” Primary School were an important part of this experience. Their warm welcome, kindness and readiness to cooperate made our students feel comfortable and curious throughout the day. After visiting the landmarks, the programme continued with sports activities, which brought additional joy to the visit. Through games, cheering and teamwork, students demonstrated team spirit, fair play and a willingness to connect with new friends.
Knowledge, friendship and team spirit
The day spent in Valjevo was much more than a school trip. It was an encounter with history, culture, peers and values that students carried with them after returning to school. Through activities like this, children remember what they have learned more easily, develop curiosity and understand that knowledge is not found only in the classroom, but all around us.
The sports activities with students from “Sestre Ilić” Primary School completed the visit in the best possible way. After exploring museums, monuments and landmarks, students relaxed through shared activities, showed team spirit and enjoyed spending time together. Once again, sport proved that it connects children, encourages cooperation and teaches respect, persistence and fair play.
We thank our hosts for their warm welcome, support and wonderful companionship. The students of Savremena Primary School returned from Valjevo richer in new knowledge, beautiful memories and friendships, while the “Happy Learning” project once again showed that the most valuable lessons are those we truly experience.
