First tennis lesson of the ``Tipsarević Academy`` held at Primary School Savremena
Students of Primary School Savremena can choose between various extracurricular activities and the possibilities for additional learning and improvement. A part of that portfolio is a tennis school for students, whereby our students have the opportunity to learn the secrets of this sport from professional coaches of the “Tipsarević Academy”.
During the first tennis lesson, students were introduced to the basics of the “white sport” and solved creative assignments, such as maintaining balance and controlling the ball, holding and positioning the racket, running and jumping to overcome obstacles, all of which was accompanied by extensive explanations of the basic tennis concepts.
“TENNIS 10S” program as the best introduction to the world of tennis guarantees high quality
This tennis school is based on the “Tennis 10S” program as the best introduction into the world of tennis, created in line with the recommendations of the International Tennis Federation (ITF). The idea is that children under 10 who practice tennis don’t have to play on a standard-sized tennis court, nor use traditional yellow balls.
In accordance with that, the Serbian Tennis Federation and Belgrade Tennis Association have included this program into their plan of action for children of preschool and primary school age, where children are divided into three levels: red, orange and green.
Red level refers to children aged five to eight years. The measurements of the court for this age group are 15m x 5m (up to 6m), and children serve a small red ball, up to 75% softer than the standard yellow one, over a small net. The orange level involves a court the size of which is 18m x 6,5m (up to 8,23m), and which is designed for children aged eight to ten years. They use orange balls, which are 50% slower than a standard tennis ball.
Green level – children aged nine to ten train on a standard-sized tennis court (23,77m x 8,23m) using green balls, which are 25% slower than the standard yellow ones.
This form of work with children has proved very successful, given that practice on a smaller court and with lighter balls significantly speeds up tennis development. And the first tennis steps of Primary School Savremena students will be made in accordance with the latest methods, at the academy of one of the best Serbian tennis players of all times – Janko Tipsarević.
Training sessions will be held 2–3 times a week after school by licensed coaches from the ” Tipsarević Academy” and Belgrade Tennis Association, in the school yard and using equipment adapted for the “Tennis 102” program.
Sports activities at Primary School Savremena are designed to improve physical and intellectual development
Familiarising themselves with the value of sport and healthy diet as early as primary school allows students of Primary School Savremena to develop correctly and develop a love for sports that will stay with them for the rest of their life which is particularly important given the fact that most jobs nowadays are performed in a sitting position, and that is a serious challenge for one’s health.
In addition, sport contributes to the development of intelligence and better learning. One of the key types of intelligence according to the Harvard University world program is bodily intelligence. And the best way to exercise it is through sports. That is why in Savremena we pay great attention to playing sports – both through regular physical education classes and through numerous extracurricular activities.
