St Sava Days – an opportunity to be creative in the classroom and bake the Slava bread
The students were given the opportunity to depict St Sava and take part in the traditional ceremony
The school Slava awakened the creativity and imagination of our talented students who made wonderful portraits of Rastko Nemanjić – St Sava. And in the culinary club, they made a beautiful Slava bread that was used in the church ceremony.
The students couldn’t wait for the holiday spirit in late January.
Their tables were full of colours, marker pens, and collage paper, which the students used to depict St Sava through portraits or other creative work. For this assignment, they used all the things the teachers taught them regarding the key figure of the Serbian enlightenment.
DRAWING THE ENLIGHTENER USING CRAYONS AND COMPUTERS
The students used all of their knowledge about St Sava to make unique works. What’s interesting is that, in addition to crayons, scissors and paper, they used computers to make digital portraits of the saint, thus presenting their vision of St Sava to their schoolmates. Moreover, this experience allowed them to practice their tech skills.
Computer-assisted learning and creative expression has become a practice at Primary School Savremena. This allows students to enhance their digital literacy and prepare for the future. Activities such as these are also creative exercises designed to train future digital artists.
As a result of their creative work, the classrooms and hallways were decorated with their beautiful drawings.
It’s no secret that Savremena’s students have excellent culinary skills. Not only do they make delicious food in the culinary club, but they also frequent the green market in pursuit of fresh and healthy ingredients.
THE LITTLE CHEFS BAKED A SLAVA BREAD
This time, their task was to bake the Slava bread with assistance from their teacher. First they made and shaped the dough, which they decorated according to tradition before baking. In addition, the students made fantastic ground wheat that is served for the school Slava.
On St Sava Day on Wednesday, accompanied by their Religious Studies teacher and the Principal, the students brought the Slava bread to St Demetrius Church for the sanctification ceremony, after which everyone treated themselves to the traditional Slava wheat. This was a real ceremony in which the little ones took part with great enthusiasm.
Bila je to prava svečanost, u kojoj su mališani svesrdno učestvovali.
