SAVREMENA’S YEAR 5 STUDENTS TAKE PART IN A BIG ENVIRONMENTAL CAMPAIGN: “LET’S CLEAN UP THE CITY!”

SAVREMENA’S YEAR 5 STUDENTS TAKE PART IN A BIG ENVIRONMENTAL CAMPAIGN: “LET’S CLEAN UP THE CITY!”

Year 5 student Lena Elezović, together with her classmates, came up with a great idea:

Let’s clean up the city!

Everyone unanimously agreed that this was a great opportunity to once again show how Savremena’s primary school students are true guardians of nature. The students chose the Sava Quay as the starting point of the campaign that will undoubtedly continue in the future. They eagerly awaited the biology lesson so that they could present the project, which they designed in just half an hour, to their teacher, Dijana Šarac.

FROM THE CLASSROOM TO THE SAVA QUAY – STUDENTS EXPAND KNOWLEDGE AND PRESERVE THE ENVIRONMENT

The students had learnt about the importance of recycling and protecting the environment in biology lessons and recycling workshops, which inspired them to launch this campaign. The teachers and the school principal helped the realisation of the project. They supported their students and were proud to have taken part in the project:

They were great! I was delighted when they came to class with the project they designed and planned themselves. In order to inspire such ideas, the school regularly organises interesting educational workshops in which the students learn through practical examples”, said Dijana Šarac, biology teacher and environmentalist.

It was not long before the event took place. Each day, the excited fifth-graders came to school with a new idea on how to organise the event. In this, they were joined by teachers Maja and Dijana, and principal Jasmina.

CREATIVE GUARDIANS OF NATURE LEAVE MESSAGES FOR PASSERS-BY

Colourful gloves and little packages were not the only elements available to the students; they also brought marker pens and collages, which they used to make environmental messages for the passers-by.

The students enjoyed an outdoor environmental lesson and shared their knowledge with the surprised passers-by. In addition, they wrote a song on environmental protection for the people around them, who joined their campaign.

The fifth-graders presented Savremena as a “green school”, proving that they implement everything they learn in the lessons, namely:

why it is important to protect our home – planet Earth;
the importance of recycling;
how to raise awareness about waste sorting and recycling.

AN ECO-FRIENDLY TEAM OF SAVREMENA’S STUDENTS

Savremena fosters an eco-friendly approach through different workshops, campaigns and projects. From day one, the students have special lessons in which they are taught how to contribute to environmental protection which is important for society as a whole.
To prove this, Savremena’s students are thinking of new projects and participating in various environmental events with other eco-schools on a daily basis.
