Savremena’s primary school students celebrate Earth Day
On Wednesday, 22 April, more than 150 countries celebrated Earth Day, and the students of Primary School Savremena were among those observing this international environmental event. The students joined the global mission of this event by supporting local and international environmental protection institutions through art.
The idea behind Earth Day is to point out the dangers facing the world and its ecosystems and urban zones due to industrial development, increased energy consumption, global warming and climate change. This is why we have to engage as many people as possible in order to raise awareness about our planet and reduce the negative impact on the environment.
Let’s take care of the environment all year round
Knowing that 22 April is not the only day when we should work on raising environmental awareness, Savremena’s students deal with this topic throughout the year.
Moreover, Primary School Savremena places significant emphasis on this topic during the school year, involving the students in numerous curricular and extracurricular activities and educational and interactive workshops.
Primary School Savremena is part of the important international Eco-Schools programme, run by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). This global project, implemented in Serbia by the Ambassadors of Sustainable Development, includes more than 12 million students from 58 countries, with the aim of involving people in environmental protection through education.
As a result of this idea, Savremena’s students have been very serious about protecting the ecosystem around them, knowing that the main prerequisites for this are:
- efficient energy use;
- efficient water use;
- recycling;
- banning plastic bags;
- compliance with the laws of nature.
The works of Savremena’s students have shown how much they know about this topic. However, like in any other area, environmental knowledge loses its edge if not updated on a daily basis. This is precisely why environmentalism will continue to be an important segment of the education received at Primary School Savremena.
