Savremena tea party

A journey through the tradition of tea drinking in China and the United Kingdom

The story of tea, which is five thousand years old, began in China, in 2737 BC. According to legend, the Chinese emperor Shen Nung was walking through his garden full of blossoming flowers. He sat beneath a tree to rest and drink hot water he had brought with him. At that moment, the wind blew, and some leaves from the tree fell into the water. These leaves gave the water a pleasant taste and beautiful color. The emperor liked the beverage so much that he refilled his cup. And that’s how tea was born! Savremena students listened to the story in wide-eyed wonder, and embarked on a journey through history and tradition.

The Fun and Study Time (FAST) program at Savremena is the time to enjoy oneself, have fun, and learn something new. Students spend the time before and after classes in a creative and productive way. This time, they learned about the history of China and the United Kingdom, made interesting hats, and drank tea.

IT IS TIME FOR FIVE O’CLOCK TEA AT SAVREMENA

By listening to legends and learning about tradition, Savremena students develop a love of history. Their favorite story this time was the story of tea parties organized by families in England since 1840. Interesting stories helped them imagine how people spent time together, drinking tea from silver teapots and delicate porcelain cups, which led them to organize their own tea party and enjoy mutual conversation infused with the aroma of tea.

They learned that tea gained popularity in England during the reign of Charles II, and that English people are famous all around the world for their tradition of five o’clock tea. They also enjoyed learning about the unique culture of tea drinking in China, and a one-of-a-kind tea house in Beijing where patrons can enjoy artistic performances while drinking tea and eating biscuits.

AMAZING HATS

You can enjoy the models of hats our little hatters made in the gallery below, and see for yourself what kind of impression this week’s class made on them. Savremena students have, once again, demonstrated their infinite creativity, and brought this day to an end with a cup of tea.
