Savremena's students celebrate Earth Day

Savremena Primary School is dedicated to protecting the environment

Earth Day has been celebrated every April 22 since 1970, with the aim of drawing attention to the importance of environmental conservation, and preventing the negative consequences of human actions on the environment. Savremena’s students showed their views on this matter with their artworks, and drew attention to the importance of preserving our planet.

The idea behind celebrating Earth Day is to warn against the dangers that threaten our planet and its ecosystems and urban areas, which arise as a consequence of industrial development, increased energy consumption, global warming, and climate change.

This situation requires the engagement of as many people as possible to raise awareness of our responsibility toward our planet, and reduce the negative environmental impact.

This is why Savremena, which boasts being counted among green schools, makes sure that our students pay attention to their environment every day, and nurture an eco-friendly outlook. Through various initiatives, workshops and projects, we raise awareness about the importance of environmental preservation, and strive to improve the living environment of our society as a whole.

This time, our students demonstrated their knowledge of climate change, importance of preserving the flora and fauna, impact of waste on our planet, importance of recycling, and the value of preserving natural resources through discussions and drawings.

Savremena is a school that cares for the environment all the year round

Preservation of the environment and natural resources of Earth is a very important segment of education in Savremena Primary School.

Savremena is part of a significant international Eco-school program, managed by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). This global project, which is being implemented in Serbia under the supervision of the Ambassadors for Sustainable Development organization, includes more than 12 million students from 58 countries, and aims to educate people to take active participation in environmental preservation.

A committee for environmental conservation and preservation has been formed within the Eco-school project, and anyone who wishes to do something for our planet may join it.

By joining the eco-team of their schoolmates from Savremena gimnazija, and schools from all over the world, Savremena students will not only contribute to environmental preservation, but also get the opportunity to try their hand at various creative roles, such as:

  • eco-reporters: the young reporter network comprises over 77,000 school children from all over the world who aim to raise awareness about the importance of environmental preservation through their creative ideas, written reports, and documentary photographs;
  • birdhouse designers: our feathered friends also need a place to live, and this is another great opportunity for students to showcase their creativity;
  • eco-garden designers: by designing a garden and filling it with plants, students learn about botany, while at the same time increasing the number of urban green spaces;
  • young spatial planners: by laying out seedlings and caring for them, students participate in designing parks and other public spaces.

Savremena students are taught the importance of environmental preservation from the very first day of school, and given the opportunity to improve the living conditions in Serbia in that regard through specially designed curricular and extracurricular activities. Caring for the environment is caring for the future of the entire human race, and this is the motto of Savremena students.
