Savremena Primary School received an award for humanity at the jubilee, tenth “Luka Jovanović – Zumbul” Humanitarian Memorial Tournament, as recognition of the contribution, unity and kindness shown by the school’s students, parents and staff.

This recognition has a special meaning for Savremena Primary School, as it confirms what we nurture in our school every day – that education is not only about acquiring knowledge, but also about developing empathy, responsibility, solidarity and awareness of how important it is to help others.

The award was presented during the final evening of the tournament in Block 63, at the moment when the organisers were also presenting trophies to the best basketball teams. This made the occasion even more solemn and emotional, as sports spirit, remembrance, humanity and togetherness all came together in one place. For our school, it was a moment of pride, but also a reminder that true values are learned most beautifully through action.

Savremena Primary School took part in this humanitarian initiative by organising its own school tournament, which brought together students, parents, teachers and staff around one shared goal – to support a young girl named Sofija.

During the event, the school was filled with sports spirit, children’s energy, smiles and the sincere wish to do a good deed. Students and parents took part in basketball, chess and singing, while the youngest children contributed through a humanitarian bazaar, showing that kindness is learned and developed from an early age.

Every match, every chess game, every song and every item at the bazaar carried the same message – that together we can achieve a great deal and that the most beautiful victory is the one that brings hope to someone. Thanks to the strong response and selfless support of students, parents and staff, Savremena Primary School collected 115,330 dinars for Sofija.

Behind this amount stands much more than a number. It represents the children’s hands that created items for the bazaar, the parents who supported the initiative, the students who played with heart, the teachers who organised and encouraged them, and the entire school community that once again showed the power of kindness.

The award for humanity that Savremena Primary School received from the “Luka Jovanović – Zumbul” Humanitarian Memorial Tournament is an important recognition for the school, but also for every child, every parent and every member of our team who took part in this initiative.

This recognition is even more meaningful because this year the tournament marked a major jubilee – ten years of organising an event that preserves the memory of Luka Jovanović through sport, togetherness and good deeds. A decade of this tournament shows how powerful an idea can be when it is guided by love, remembrance and the wish to help others.

That is why it is a great honour for Savremena Primary School to have been part of such a noble story. This award reminds us that a school plays an important role not only in shaping successful students, but also kind, empathetic and responsible people. We are proud of our students and parents, because they once again showed that a community’s big heart is made of small acts of kindness – done together.
