Savremena chefs preparing food for the school's patron saint's day
Healthy recipes from Savremena
Members of the school club Little Chefs meet once a week to learn about proper nutrition and healthy habits, as well as various life skills. Several sessions dedicated to traditional cuisine, so Savremena chefs also talk about preparing the slava bread and wheat dish.
Apart from the preparation of various dishes, we also discuss the entire process of making flour products, from sowing to harvesting wheat, grinding grain into flour, to baking bread or other pastries in these classes, because that way, students link content from different subjects.
Healthy habits must be adopted from an early age, so Savremena students adopt them from the very first day of school, which makes them more independent. In culinary club classes, students learn various skills and have the opportunity to prepare healthy salty and sweet meals on their own, as well as to learn new recipes, and try out dishes that they have designed themselves, or in partnership with their schoolmates. They learn that cooking healthy meals can be fun.
Benefits of joining the culinary club:
- Development of motor skills – Activities such as mixing ingredients, chopping, rinsing, and kneading dough help develop finger muscles.
- Practicing reading and writing, and boosting memory – Children take down recipes, talk about them and memorize them, which is a great mental “exercise”.
- Developing imagination and creativity – Who says that creativity has no place in the kitchen? It most certainly does. Children have the opportunity to design their own recipes and combine different tastes. In addition, when serving and decorating meals, they must not neglect the visual aspect.
- Adopting healthy eating habits – By preparing meals with lots of fresh cereals, fruit and vegetables, children learn what food groups are necessary for healthy growth and development.
