Savremana receive the special “Green Star” ECO-diploma
Green classes in Savremena
Savremena receives good news on a daily basis. This time, it’s an ecological award because the students and teachers of Savremena care about the environment. As part of the third phase of the “Eco-School” project, representatives of the “My Kind of Serbia” association (“Srbija kakvu želim”) have presented Savremena with a special diploma – “the Green Star”. The kids had fun in the project and learned new things, while Year 3 and Year 4 teachers spent two weekends on Goč attending a seminar.
In December, the “My Kind of Serbia” association organised a seminar called “Eco-School” on Goč for primary school teachers from Belgrade, which was attended by Year 3 and Year 4 teachers from Savremena as well, namely Branka Đurović, Maja Matić, and Branka Milićević.
The “Eco-School“ project comprised three stages. The first phase consisted of an educational seminar which was enriched by the attendance of the lovely teachers from Savremena. During the second and most entertaining phase, our students participated in some interesting workshops. In the third phase, the children worked on a joint project.
Using Glinamol clay in art class, Year 3 students of Savremena made a replica of the Uvac Special Nature Reserve by means of clay modelling. They recreated the relief and the flora and fauna of the place, representing its protected species in the process.
Year 4 students built bird feeders and an insect hotel using various recyclable materials and in nature class, they made posters about the importance of forests for the preservation of the planet and about the positive and negative aspects of human impact on the environment.
This was yet another pleasant experience. We take great pride in the fact that Savremena was presented with certificates of appreciation and the special “Green Star” diploma for taking part in the “Eco-School” project, which is no coincidence because our school is environmentally conscious.
An eco-friendly and eco-conscious school
Savremena has included a mission of environmental protection in its work by using technology in classes. The entire “paperless school” system contributes to the preservation of forests and a decline in paper use. With our contemporary equipment and good insulation, we help the environment by bringing down our energy consumption levels. The school also has sensors that adjust the temperature when needed.
Through regular classes and extracurricular activities such as workshops, lectures, field trips, and volunteering, students at Savremena gain crucial knowledge about the need for environmental protection.
Since Year 1, they get introduced to flora and fauna, learn why it’s important that the environment remains clean and healthy, and how recycling works, but they also lead by example by showing how much they appreciate nature.
Savremena’s students grow up in harmony with nature.
