Raising awareness of strengthening the struggle against illness

Education needed to fight taboos

World AIDS Day is marked across the world on 1 December. On that occasion gynaecologist Aleksandra Bradonjić Vojnović, visited Savremena Primary School who talked to the students of senior classes about the ways to fight HIV virus issues.

We should break down prejudices because it shouldn’t be embarrassing to ask

The talk held by Dr Aleksandra Bradonjić Vojnović was not meant only for girls – our boys also took active participation. During the conversation and talk about HIV virus and sexually transmitted illnesses, Dr Aleksandra was open to the widest possible range of questions students could ask.

The students learnt that it is vitally important that the infection has to be discovered as soon as possible in order to start treatment immediately thus preserving health or stabilising it, in case it has already been affected. Nowadays a large number of people live with HIV virus meaning that infected people can lead a normal life provided that the virus has been detected on time and the adequate treatment has been initiated.

It is good that the topics related to the virus itself and sexuality have stopped being a taboo and the students could get answers from an expert.

Savemena Primary School students will become responsible individuals ready to take action in a society they will live in. Therefore, it is necessary to discuss taboos not only to solve problems but to upgrade the culture of dealing with vital issues.

Many thanks to Dr Aleksandra for her talk and congratulations to you, our caring students, who demonstrated interest in dealing with problems showing that you will grow up to be responsible members of a society.
