Project: Happy Learning
Spring Tea Party on Bukulja
Students of Savremena Primary School took part in the “Happy Learning” project and spent an unforgettable day on Bukulja, during a spring tea party organised at Smart Glamp. This full-day trip was much more than time spent in nature – it was a carefully designed experience that allowed students to connect knowledge from different fields through play, exploration, creativity and friendship.
Inspired by the work of Branko Ćopić, the students explored topics that connected literature, nature, mathematics, art, music, language and sport through six creative laboratories. They visited a field of grains, an orchard and vegetable garden, a flower garden, an aromatic herb garden and a forest, observing the plant and animal world in its natural surroundings.
The special value of this day was that students learned with all their senses. They touched different types of flour, observed plants and birds, created artwork, listened to music, solved research challenges and enjoyed a picnic on the grass. In such an atmosphere, knowledge was not just a lesson, but an experience to remember.

Six creative laboratories for curious explorers
During the spring tea party, students took part in various workshops designed to encourage curiosity, cooperation and the practical application of knowledge. In the Little Chefs’ Laboratory, called “Grandpa Triša’s Recipes”, they explored basic types of grains, identified them by appearance, distinguished types of flour by touch and prepared a homemade grain cake. Through measuring weight, converting units, multiplying and dividing, mathematics became part of a real-life experience.
In the language laboratory “Toša’s Wise Thoughts”, students explored the meanings of unfamiliar words and connected the literary world of Branko Ćopić with their own impressions. In the “Mill Adventures” workshop, through mathematics and science, they learned about grains, flour and the food chain, while in the art studio “Žuća’s Art Atelier” they studied birds and practised the dry pastel technique.
The music laboratory “Wandering Birds” was dedicated to migratory birds, distinguishing pitch and learning markings for tempo and dynamics in musical performance. In the sports and research challenge “Čiča Brka’s Challenge”, students used a map of the estate, learned the basics of orienteering and practised finding their way in nature. Every activity brought new questions, teamwork and the joy of discovery.
Knowledge that grows in nature
The spring tea party on Bukulja showed how powerful learning becomes when it is connected with experience, movement and emotion. By exploring cultivated and uncultivated habitats, students distinguished between the plant and animal world, observed relationships in nature and discussed the food chain. Everything that is usually learned in the classroom through a text, table or task became visible, tangible and close to them.
In addition to research and creative tasks, students also enjoyed a shared picnic, tea and homemade cakes. In the shade of trees, surrounded by nature and friends, they talked, drew, recorded their observations and learned how to cooperate. Moments like these develop independence, confidence, responsibility and a sense of belonging to the group.
Through the “Happy Learning” project, Savremena Primary School continues to nurture an approach in which children learn actively, curiously and joyfully. The day spent on Bukulja remained proof that the most beautiful lessons often happen outside the classroom – among plants, in birdsong, through teamwork, smiles and small discoveries that students remember for a long time.
