The students of our school had the opportunity to plant an ash tree for each class of younger grades. A total of 11 ash trees were planted on the side of the Sava Quay where Novi Beograd is, across from Belgrade Waterfront.

Two representatives of each class of the younger grades took part in planting the trees. They had the opportunity to choose a tree for their class, on which they hung a reel with their class and school written on it. In addition to that, the students planted a tree using earth and water. They really enjoyed this activity, and they were delighted to be able to use shovels and plant their own tree. Furthermore, some of them also learned a poem called “Plant a tree” by Jovan Jovanović Zmaj, which they recited while planting the trees.

In this way, Primary School Savremena raises awareness among its students about ecology and the importance of trees and forests for air preservation, as well as for contributing to the environment. The students’ comments afterwards were that they can’t wait for the next similar initiative so that they can participate in it.

Through this activity, students developed cooperation skills, but also responsibility towards the environment. At Savremena, we pay special attention to raising environmental awareness, both in classes every day and in activities like this.
