National Competition of Talented Students

3rd Place Won in the Mathematics Category

Savremena Primary School is proud to celebrate the outstanding success of its student Dunja Trifunović, who won third prize in the mathematics category at the 68th National Competition of Talented Primary School Students in school subjects and scientific disciplines. The competition was held on 23 May 2026 in Bor, organised by the Regional Centres for Talents and the Ministry of Education, and gathered students who had demonstrated exceptional interest, knowledge and research potential in various fields.

Dunja’s result is particularly significant because it was achieved in a strong competition of students who had already distinguished themselves through their work, knowledge and dedication. Out of 45 qualified students from Belgrade, 17 won awards, while only four seventh-grade students achieved placement in mathematics. Dunja was among them, confirming that persistent work, curiosity and a love of mathematics are always recognised.

This achievement is not only a competition result, but also proof that Savremena Primary School nurtures students who think critically, explore independently and confidently accept academic challenges. Through her knowledge, composure and responsible approach, Dunja showed that mathematics can be a space of creativity, logic and meaningful research.

Knowledge, research and confidence before the national committee

At the national competition for talented students, special attention is given not only to solving mathematical problems, but also to students’ ability to conduct independent research, work on a scientific topic and clearly present the results of their work. This is why Dunja’s success carries additional value, as it included both writing and defending a scientific research paper on the topic “Quadratic Equation”.

At the competition, Dunja completed a mathematics test and then defended her research paper before the national committee. This format requires much more than providing correct answers. Students need to understand mathematical concepts, explain procedures, connect theory with application and show confidence while presenting their ideas. Throughout this process, Dunja demonstrated seriousness, maturity and readiness to approach mathematics in a deeper and more investigative way.

The topic “Quadratic Equation” gave her the opportunity to explore one of the important mathematical concepts that connects algebra, logical reasoning and the application of different solving methods. Through preparing her paper, solving problems and presenting conclusions, Dunja showed that she sees mathematics not only as a school subject, but as a field that develops precision, consistency and analytical thinking.

Achievements like this are especially important because they show students that effort, additional engagement and the willingness to go beyond the regular curriculum always bring valuable results. Dunja’s example shows how meaningful it is when a student has the opportunity to develop their interests through mentoring, research and competitions that encourage independence and academic confidence.

Proud of Dunja and her outstanding result

We congratulate Dunja Trifunović on winning third prize at the 68th National Competition of Talented Primary School Students. Her achievement is a great recognition of her effort, knowledge and dedication, as well as a proud moment for Savremena Primary School, which continuously supports the development of students in the areas where they show special talent.

We are especially pleased that Dunja, as a seventh-grade student, achieved placement among a small number of students in mathematics, proving that serious results are reached when knowledge is built patiently, systematically and with great enthusiasm. Her ability to successfully complete the test and present her scientific research paper before the committee speaks of responsibility, confidence and high-quality preparation.

Dunja’s result will remain an inspiration to all students of Savremena Primary School to nurture curiosity, develop their talents and believe in the power of knowledge. We are proud of Dunja and look forward to all her future achievements.
