MENSA PRIZE FOR SAVREMENA’S TEACHER DANIJELA KLEUT AND HER STUDENTS

Primary School Savremena’s class IV-1 teacher, Danijela Kleut, received a Mensa award for one of the best projects of encouraging student intellectual development. Kleut, the winner among more than 200 entries, received the prize as part of Intelligence Day 2019. This was, also, an award for the students of Savremena who participated in the project, and for her colleagues who helped the implementation.

ACCOLADES FOR OTHER TEACHERS FROM SAVREMENA

Lower grade teachers Branka Đurović, Mirjana Kitanović, Persida Petrović, Mirjana Ilić and subject teacher Sara Popov Petrović were also commended for their work and enthusiasm shown when organising the activities through which they greatly contributed to Intelligence Day 2019. Congratulations to our teachers and students on this important Mensa recognition and we wish them plenty of success in the future!

The committee of the international project “Celebrating Intelligence Day 2019” chose the top 30 works by teachers and students from Serbia and the region that are examples of good practices, i.e. activities through which the teachers encouraged their students’ intellectual development.

The awarded teachers received their prizes at the final event, a panel entitled “Stimulating Intellectual Development – Examples of Good Practices”, which took place on 7 December at the Institute for Contemporary Education at Belgrade Palace.

INTELLIGENCE AND HEALTH ARE ALWAYS THE WINNING COMBINATION

Savremena’s teacher Danijela Kleut and her students were awarded for two projects designed to mark Intelligence Day 2019: A GENIUS in a healthy body and Robotics.
Both projects were successfully realized, as confirmed by the Mensa award for 2019.
As a modern school, we strive to stimulate the intellectual development of each child, including all their senses and abilities.

This is why at a Sports Day at Avala and during an interactive robotics lesson, we came to the idea to mark Intelligence Day, said teacher Danijela.

“A GENIUS IN A HEALTHY BODY”

As part of the project named “A GENIUS in a healthy body”, students in Years 4 and 5 solved various tasks and problems at the Sports Day at Avala. This encouraged thinking, teamwork and creative problem solving through sports and outdoor activities.

“ROBOTICS”

In the second project, “Robotics”, the students laid the foundation for their digital literacy, developed multiple intelligences and adopted 21st-century transversal skills that are important for their education and careers. These include: logical, critical and creative thinking, problem solving, teamwork and project-based work.

HOW WAS INTELLIGENCE DAY 2019 CELEBRATED?

The main idea behind Intelligence Day was to organise different activities and events designed to underline the significance of stimulating the intellectual abilities of students by including creative, innovative and enthusiastic teachers. The competition was open to primary and secondary school teachers from the region who organised different activities from 22 September through 6 October designed to stimulate the intellectual development of their students.
