Maths competition – revising and preparing for great challenges

Junior class students showcase notable results at internal maths contest

Maths is not a stumbling block but one of the most interesting subjects one needs throughout life. And it’s one of the favourites at Primary School Savremena.

This is why students eagerly participate in public or internal competitions, one of which was held last week at the school.

On Friday, 5 February, students in Years 3 and 4 took part in a school maths competition. A total of 15 students applied and according to preliminary results, they did a great job.

This challenge develops the students’ competitive spirit and allows them to gain experience and knowledge. The students had three hours to solve five problems, and their performance indicated serious effort and preparation.

We are sure that this internal competition will be a great test for the students which will provide them with enhanced skills, valuable experience and the necessary confidence to tackle future mathematical challenges.

MATHS PROBLEMS BASED ON REAL-LIFE SITUATIONS

Like so many things at Savremena that are truly different, this method of teaching maths is designed to motivate students to fall in love with the subject, develop teamwork skills, and increase their drive towards success. An example of such practice is an unusual maths problem which imitates a real-life situation. And just like in real life – there’s no correct formula for solving the problem.

However, there is something that takes you out of the problem and that’s precisely what the little ones are tasked to discover in order to eventually write their answers.

What the students particularly like is the topical nature of the content and the possibility to learn maths through play.

Actually, this is more than mathematics. Check out the video:
