Life Skills Program: Internet Safety

Helping students become safe, responsible, and aware digital citizens

In today’s world, where the digital environment is an integral part of everyday life, developing awareness of safe online behavior has become an essential life skill. With this in mind, our students participated in an interactive workshop within the Life Skills program, dedicated to internet safety – a topic that is both highly relevant and crucial for their development.

The workshop was led by guest lecturer Zoran Stanković, a programmer and IT expert, as well as the parent of our student Mihal from class II-2. His approach, based on real-life examples and open communication, enabled students to explore the topic of digital safety in a clear and engaging way. Through discussion, questions, and shared thinking, students actively participated throughout the session.

What made this workshop particularly valuable was the supportive atmosphere in which students felt encouraged to express their opinions, share experiences, and ask questions. Through this open dialogue, they gained a deeper understanding not only of how the internet works but also of how their own behavior impacts their safety and the safety of others in the digital space.

Learning through experience and interaction

During the workshop, students explored various real-life situations they might encounter online – from sharing personal information and communicating with strangers to recognizing inappropriate content. Through guided discussion and relatable examples, they learned how to respond, who to turn to, and what steps to take to protect themselves.

A key focus of the workshop was developing critical thinking. Students were encouraged to reflect on the consequences of their actions and to distinguish between safe and risky online behavior. Questions such as “Is it okay to share this information?” and “How do we know something is trustworthy?” helped them pause, think, and make responsible decisions.

The interactive nature of the workshop kept students highly engaged. Rather than passively listening, they became active participants – discussing ideas, sharing perspectives, and collaboratively reaching conclusions. This approach transformed knowledge into meaningful experience.

Applying knowledge in practice

The final part of the workshop was dedicated to a quiz, where students had the opportunity to demonstrate and apply what they had learned. Through fun and practical questions, they showed a strong understanding of the topic and readiness to make safe choices in the digital world. Their enthusiasm, teamwork, and competitive spirit made this segment especially engaging.

Their responses clearly reflected the key takeaways of the workshop – the importance of protecting personal data, communicating responsibly, and seeking help from trusted adults when facing unfamiliar or uncomfortable situations online. Activities like this empower students to feel confident and secure in the digital environment.

This workshop once again highlighted the importance of schools as places where not only academic knowledge but also essential life skills are developed. Through programs like this, our students grow into responsible, aware, and safe users of the internet, ready to navigate the modern world with confidence and good judgment.
