International Music Day celebrated at Savremena
Find out how our primary students used art to express their emotions
International Music Day has been annually celebrated around the world on 1 October since 1975. The observance was initiated by the famous violinist Lord Yehudi Menuhin so as to promote music in all segments of society, particularly among the youth. It was a great pleasure to celebrate this day at Savremena.
Sounds of music and discussions on musical topics filled Savremena’s school hall. One of the primary students’ creative tasks was to write about one of the most beautiful forms of art in a feature entitled “What Music Means to Me”. Here are the little ones’ poignant thoughts and feelings, which were placed on the school notice board for International Music Day.
Music is a mellifluous melody that means happiness and sadness. To me, music is something we use to express our mood. I’ve never had just one musical genre that I like to listen to, but I know what I like. For example, I like good lyrics and a nice melody. We grow up with music and create memories with it. Music has a positive impact on our brains; it puts us in a good mood and motivates us to focus on what we love.

Music is like magic to me. With it, I dream and daydream, experience joy and, sometimes, sadness. It often cheers me up because music heals the soul. Although I know many genres – classical, rock, or pop – I like ballads by foreign performers the best. Music inspires my imagination.

To me, music is a rhythm that can change one’s life. Life without music would be extremely dull. When jogging, we wouldn’t have the drive to run faster; in a bus – nothing would distract us from the smell. Music is my best friend who can make me cry, sing the funniest joke, take me dancing in the blink of an eye. But I’m trying not to dance. I love music like it was my best friend.

Music means a lot to me. I wouldn’t be able to function without it. It soothes me when I’m nervous. It inspires me. I’m currently writing this while listening to music. Rock music is my favourite genre, and it’s always on when I’m playing video games.

In class, the students watched an interesting documentary on our famous composer Stanislav Binički. Music teacher Miloš Petrović told the students how important Binički’s work was for the creation of many musical institutions in Serbia, which is why, along with Stevan Mokranjac, he is a crucial figure in music one should always remember on important musical occasions.
The creative students filmed a choreography to the music of their choice. It was a wonderful day and a celebration of children’s creativity. Check it out:
Future guitarists and members of rock bands entered the world of music by learning some of the most popular riffs including the unavoidable song Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple. Here is how Andrej Lazarević from V-2 played.
SAVREMENA IS TRULY DIFFERENT. NO WONDER EVERYONE COMES TO OUR SCHOOL WITH A SMILE ON THEIR FACE.
Apart from learning, we do a lot of creative things to make the students even happier. This time, we decided to have fun and spread good vibes on International Music Day.
